Soon International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is going to introduce online test besides the pen and paper model across the country. Up till now the computer-based format test is available only in Delhi.
First secretary (education services) Kevin McLaven who was in the city informed that the within two years computer-based test will be introduced in other parts of the country also.
But the interactive session to assess spoken English will not be computerized. McLaven in an interview told TOI, "Students will be more comfortable if they have an interviewer testing them than an automated voice which sounds like an answering machine”.
He informed that in the past two years there has been increase in the number of IELTS candidates, around 2,30,000 students take up the test last time.
On the other hand IELTS officials have warned the candidates from joining coaching centers which lack in offering qualitative coaching. Nirupa Fernandez, Head, English and Exams, British Council said, "We guide students on what they need to look for in terms of preparation for IELTS. The students should preferably join institutes where the trainers are trained by IELTS officials. This will ensure credibility".
British Council/IELTS in a partnership has launched a program for IELTS trainers in the city. McLaven informed, "The program is set to teach the trainer to give out accurate information on how to crack IELTS".
